STOUGHTON — The Stoughton Charter Review Committee elected Amy Puliafico as Chair, Michael Hardman as Vice Chair, and Carmel Drewes as Clerk in unanimous reorganization votes. The committee approved its March 30 minutes with five yes votes and two abstentions from members absent at that prior meeting. In a unanimous voice vote, the committee submitted a revised quorum definition to Town Counsel: "Unless otherwise defined in Massachusetts general laws or by statute, for the purposes of Town business, quorum is defined as any number that exceeds 50% of currently serving members of that body." The committee continues exploring changes to municipal election procedures, including potentially eliminating expensive preliminary elections in favor of alternatives such as rank-choice voting and shifting the election date to November to allow newly elected officials to participate in Town Meeting committee hearings.
The committee plans a community forum between September and November to solicit public input on voting methods and timing.
