STOUGHTON — Municipal Operations Committee clears 21 articles for May 4 town meetings. Chairwoman Cynthia Walsh led the panel through a full public hearing on both the Annual Town Meeting and Special Town Meeting articles on March 16, approving major capital spending including $7.461 million for water department work to address PFAS contamination in three town wells, $2.4 million for sewer infrastructure, and $1.23 million for fire department equipment. The committee rejected only one item: a $60,000 Flock Safety license plate reader system, voting 2-4 to defeat it after committee members raised concerns about surveillance, data-sharing without warrants, and violation of civil rights protections.
Member John DiStefano requested a vote reconsideration on the water article after the initial vote, citing missing cost documentation; the committee reapproved it 5-1.
