School Committee convenes for public hearing on new elementary school naming

Stoughton School Committee held public hearing on naming the new elementary school building. Chair Chris Shannon, Superintendent Dr. Joseph Baeta, and five committee members heard from community members and teachers, including a request from 10th grade history teachers to adjust signature and age requirements so students could conduct a civics project on the naming decision.
The committee discussed ways to include student voice but took no formal action. A total of 21 survey responses have been submitted, with suggestions including maintaining the South School name, adopting a street or natural name, or honoring specific educators or local historical figures.
