Finance Committee · Meeting of October 15, 2026
Stoughton's Finance Committee recommended nine Special Town Meeting warrant articles, including a firefighters' contract and a water project overrun. The committee voted 9-1-1 to back a three-year contract with Local 1512 IAFF, which Fire Chief Michael Carroll said adds paramedic stipends after the department hired 22 new EMTs amid a paramedic shortage. Resident Vaughn Bonin told the panel the Pratt's Court water treatment project is "already 61% over" its original $4,440,000 budget, prompting an 8-2-1 vote to recommend $500,000 more in borrowing.
The committee also backed $1,986,000 in roadway paving (10-1-0), $180,000 for the Canton, School and Summer Street intersection (9-0-2), and $150,000 to design a signalized Lincoln and Pleasant Street intersection (9-0-2). All articles head to the November 16 Special Town Meeting.
