STOUGHTON — The Stoughton School Committee voted 4-1 to send a $192,106 supplemental funding request to November's Town Meeting, covering unemployment costs from 45 eliminated positions this year. Superintendent Juliette A. Miller said the district had budgeted $150,000 for unemployment claims but calculated total exposure at $342,106 based on claims from 32 laid-off employees.
Vice Chair Jillian Distefano cast the dissenting vote, saying "there's already a trust issue with this committee" over funding requests to the town. Member Karen Powers pressed staff on a discrepancy between figures of 32 and 33 initial claims cited in budget documents. The committee also recognized roughly 20 students for perfect MCAS scores and presented Stoughton High School senior Max Arroyo with the Superintendent's Excellence Award.
A separate 3-2 vote added a standing "School Committee Communications" item to future agendas after a lengthy procedural dispute.
