Stoughton Planning Board Unanimously Approves New Elementary School Site Plan

STOUGHTON — May 14, 2026 — Stoughton Planning Board approves site plan for new 101,590-square-foot elementary school on Stefano Way. The board voted unanimously Thursday to close the public hearing and approve case SP25-016, a town-initiated project to build a new elementary school on approximately 27 acres off Stefano Way, after five continuances dating to December 2024. Engineer Steve Garvin of Samuels Consultants and architect Carl Franceschi of DRA Architects represented the town, reporting that the Conservation Commission had closed its own hearing the previous week and that peer reviewer GPI issued a clean traffic letter. One new condition, added at the direction of absent Chairman Kelly, requires the town to "actively work with MassDOT to advocate for" intersection improvements at Park and Prospect Street based on a September 2025 MassDOT road safety audit of the Route 27 corridor. A MassDOT highway access permit — and with it the final determination on whether a full traffic signal, HAWK beacon, or other control will govern the school's Park Street entrance — remains outstanding. The board also unanimously released a $17,600 landscape bond for Chase Bank at 386 Washington Street, with staff noting MassDOT had removed front plantings during road work and advising the bank to seek reimbursement from the state agency.
