Stoughton Select Board Halts Hampton Inn License Over Unresolved Hotel Status

STOUGHTON — March 17, 2026 — Stoughton Select Board continues Hampton Inn license hearing, citing unresolved hotel status. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to postpone a common victualler application from PVG-5 Hospitality, doing business as Hampton Inn at 449 Park Street, until April 14 after members Scott Carrara and John Coulter raised objections that the property had never formally reinstated its hotel license with the board following an abrupt closure in which the building was used to house state clients. "This town lost a small fortune in room taxes when the hotel abruptly closed and made a deal with the state that we knew nothing about," Coulter said. The board directed the applicant to meet with town staff and file for hotel reinstatement promptly. In the same session, the board unanimously approved a change of manager, officers, and stock interest at Bob's Famous Food Mart and Discount Liquors at 289 Park Street, transferring the license to Gautam Patel, who has roughly 20 years of industry experience. The board also approved a National Grid and Verizon New England joint utility pole petition on Prospect Street with landscaping and clearance conditions. Town Manager separately told the board that a plan to build a police station at the town-owned armory for under $30 million — compared to earlier estimates of $45 million to $55 million — will be presented to the Select Board and Finance Committee in coming days.
