Three Stoughton Select Board Candidates Debate Police Station, Trash, and Taxes

STOUGHTON — March 25, 2026 — Three Stoughton Select Board candidates debated police station financing, a proposed trash disposal contract, and municipal spending at a March 25 forum two weeks before the April 7 town election. Dawn Dino, Stephanie Carrara, and Laurie Jakes each opposed a debt exclusion to fund a new police station — Carrara called it "a fancy name for a Proposition 2 and a half override" — and all three pointed to the Stoughton Armory as a site worth studying. On a proposed contract with wind waste for a new Page Street municipal trash facility, Carrara was the only candidate to oppose the deal outright, arguing the existing CMASS facility owned by Covanta is being upgraded and "it's not going anywhere." All three said they would seek to lower taxes but declined to name specific cuts without first reviewing town finances. A fourth candidate, Deborah Roberts, declined the invitation to participate. Polls are open April 7 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., with early voting available March 30 through April 4 at the town clerk's office.
